Small grants.
Big waves.
Introducing the River North Community Foundation Action Fund!
Launching in July 2026, The Action Fund is a delegated funding pool that will allow us to deploy funds in response to the needs and opportunities we’re hearing about across the region. The Fund will back in local community-led efforts across North Brisbane and City of Moreton Bay to turn community ideas into action - or amplify existing efforts - and create local impact.

How It Works
01
Orgs or people connect with us
We either connect with through outreach, referrals or through our inbound stream the WAVE form. We want to hear about local organisations, projects or ideas that are doing good in our region.
02
We meet to learn and build trust
Our team is out doing calls and site visits or coffee catch ups to get to know the region and how we can back, catalyse and amplify impact.
03
We play whatever role is requested
Support may include practical advice, useful connections, access to volunteers, and/or a microgrant — because sometimes the right support can be just as valuable as funding.
We celebrate the incredible work happening across our region. While anyone creating positive community impact is encouraged to connect with us through our WAVE Form, the Action Fund is intentionally focused on smaller, grassroots organisations and community-led initiatives where trust-based microgrants can go the furthest.
Because of our Community Charity status, we can support a broad range of not-for-profits, community groups, community-led organisations and local initiatives, not just DGR1 charities.

2026-2027 Financial Year for the Action Fund
Small grants. Big belief in local people.
The River North Community Foundation Action Fund, in its first year, will provide 12 x $500 trust-based microgrants alongside practical support, connections and encouragement for grassroots organisations and community leaders.
We believe some of the best ideas already exist in our communities—they just need someone willing to back them.
Why it matters
By putting our own skin in the game, we can:
-
Uncover and back great local ideas.
-
Build the capability and confidence of community organisations.
-
Strengthen local leadership.
-
Help grassroots groups grow their impact.
-
Encourage collaboration across our region.
The impact
When local people have the resources and support they need, communities become stronger and more resilient.
Together, we're creating a region where people:
-
Feel they belong.
-
Know they matter.
-
Work together for a shared future.
Guiding principles
Every Action Fund microgrant is guided by five simple principles:
-
Responsive – shaped by real community needs.
-
Trust-based – we centre relationships and genuine connections.
-
Simple – so the good work can continue without disruption.
-
Community-led – acknowledging local wisdom.
-
Learning-focused – sharing the stories of the people and the work for community change, and to inform how we operate now and in the future.
